DONATIONS
The Thomas L. Young Auxiliary of Southeast Louisiana Hospital is a nonprofit volunteer organization funded solely by individual and corporate support. The mission of the Auxiliary is to help improve the quality of life of those with a mental illness.
CLOTHING
The Auxiliary operates a clothing room where items are given to clients on an as-needed basis. Garments in the Clothing Room are made available largely through donations from the community, though some personal items are purchased new via the Auxiliary’s budget.
MERCHANDISE and READING MATERIALS
Also managed by the Auxiliary, is the hospital Gift Shop. Merchandise is sold at a very reasonable price and all proceeds benefit hospital clients. The Gift Shop also accepts barely-used donated items including books, magazines, jewelry, purses, greeting cards, eye glasses, etc. Contact Shantel Washington at (985) 626-6455 to coordinate the delivery of donated items to the hospital.
FINANCIAL GIFTS
Support from the community enables the Auxiliary to faithfully fund several hospital requests. Some of the items, projects and programs that the Auxiliary has funded in the past include:
- Project ERASE (Eliminate Restraint and Seclusion Events) in helping to keep the serenity rooms and sensory carts stocked with the necessary supplies to successfully continue the program for another year
- Bedroom Comforters
- Waterslide for outdoor youth activities
- Newly Constructed Basketball Court
- Arts and Crafts Supplies
- The Greenhouse Project
- Day of Beauty Project
- Haircuts
- Reading Glasses
- Reading Materials
- Holiday events for clients
- Undergarments, shoes, belts and general clothing items
ANNUAL FUNDRAISER
Annually, the Auxiliary hosts the Great Wake Up Race. The Race is a 1 Mile and 5K Run/Walk held in Abita Springs, LA during the month of September. Product donations and corporate sponsors are sought in addition to event registrations to help make this event successful every year. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the people served at Southeast Louisiana Hospital. Your participation and support funds ambitious projects and helps to increase the awareness of the need for mental health services in your community.
