ACCREDITATION
In an effort to demonstrate excellence in mental health, Southeast Louisiana Hospital participates in The Joint Commission.
The Joint Commission sets performance expectations in healthcare. It indicates that a facility has met established standards of care and accreditation is recognized by CMS for Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement. Healthcare education programs seek clinical training in accredited facilities. Professionals prefer to work in a hospital that maintains care according to national standards.
The Joint Commission evaluates the quality and safety of care for more than 15,000 health care organizations. To earn and maintain accreditation, organizations must have an extensive on-site review by a team of Joint Commission health care professionals at least once every three years. The purpose of the review is to evaluate the organization’s performance in areas that affect care. Accreditation may then be awarded based on how well the organization has met Joint Commission standards.
